read/unread, logged in/not
OK, two happenings that I cannot explain.
1) I log out, come back many hours later and I'm still logged in. At least until I select a category to read, then suddenly I'm not logged in anymore. This has happened too many times just to be my browser not refreshing, as it's even happened just now after my computer was off all afternoon. No biggie, but strange.
2) Each time I come back it seems that the site can't keep straight what I've read and what I haven't. At all. For a while all the llama recipes were new each time I came back for quite a few times. While the site finally realizes I've read them all, it's not understanding that I've read certain other ones. Might this be a profile thing, or some cookies misbehaving, or something like that?
Oh, and as of this writing all the new smileys aren't appearing. I can see broken images for them all (well, actually on Macs they simply appear as question marks in a framed blue background) but not the images themselves. Just FYI.

Re: read/unread, logged in/not
I think I figured out the logged in/not logged in thing. When I come back, I always go to
www.llamacouncil.org/forum
, which is where I show as being logged in. If I hit refresh, that url becomes forum/index.php, and an error saying it couldn't validate the refering link, or something like that. So I think it's just not understanding what to do with me if I don't explicitly go to the index.php.
Not that it's a big deal, but I know us nerds/geeks love to obsess over small details that aren't a big deal.

Re: read/unread, logged in/not
I'll bet that's it. Because we are using a Joomla-SMF bridge SMF freaks out if you go straight to the forum?

Re: read/unread, logged in/not
I'll let you figure that out, but I just noticed that if you try to click through from the main page, the url is /forum, instead of /forum/index.php, so this error is built right into the site. If you can fix that link, that will be most of the issue solved right there.

Re: read/unread, logged in/not
Here\'s what happens. When you go to the website first, not the forum, Joomla will validate you using whatever login form we have published. Since we are using the Joomla-SMF bridge, it looks at your cookie, validates you and updates your session. Once validated you can go to the forum.
Try this, in a new browser window go to llamacouncil.org and login. Then go to the address bar and type in llamacouncil.org/forum. Click on a topic and you should be okay. If you open a new browser window and go straight to llamacouncil.org/forum then you don\'t go over the Joomla-SMF bridge. If you click on a topic you are asked to login because you didn\'t use the bridge.
I am thinking out loud here but I think that sounds right. :euro:

Re: read/unread, logged in/not
I am just testing what happens when using an apostrophe as I noticed all the / marks in the post above.

Re: read/unread, logged in/not
My guess is somewhere in the text going from plain text to PHP/HTML and back to plain text is having it mess up somewhere with the escape character.

I don't know, but if you are trying to threaten it I don't think you are using enough force.

Re: read/unread, logged in/not
I honestly have no idea what you two are talking about. This whole thread looks properly formatted to me, with no weird text. What are *you* seeing?
Oh, wait,,, you mean the "hasn\'t" and "don\'t" stuff. OK, yeah, I see that. I saw it once, assumed it was a typo, and missed the others.

Yeah, logged in, then I went to the forums, and I was logged out. Strange.
Nice smiles, though.

Re: read/unread, logged in/not
Sometimes I have to close my browser and delete my cookie. I think it's cause I been messing with the bridge though. Now that we are in wrapped mode it's a little screwy.
