404 Troubles
Hello, first of all thank you for this sef_Ext.php which is surely very useful.
Im having an hard time making it work though..i uploaded it in com_zoom directory, and set an alias. But, it works good EXCEPT for the pic urls, that show a 404 Err.
Infact for example, it builds url like these
http://www.teamspl.it/spl/gallerie/
WORKS - main gallery component
http://www.teamspl.it/spl/gallerie/bass_wars_-_kriminal_tuning_club_-_ascoli_piceno
WORKS - Galleries, pics inside show perfectly.
Then when yo click a pic (ANY) you get an url like this
http://www.teamspl.it/spl/gallerie/view/bass_wars_-_kriminal_tuning_club_-_ascoli_piceno/ktc-ascoli-piceno002.jpg
This looks and would be perfect, but doesnt work...404 err to me.What could be the problem?
Thanks very much

404 Troubles
Hi,
It may be the gallery names. I am not quite sure but looks like you have galleries with slashes in the name like so:
BASS WARS - XXX Tuning Club - 23/10/2006 > terni23-10005.jpg
This might be confusing SEF. Try taking out the dashes and the slashes. Change your dates to "Oct 23 2006" instead of 23/10/2006. When I do stuff like this the gallery names look like this:
General\AZ May 2004
Notice how I have the spaces turn to dashes instead of underscores. Dashes are better for your serps than underscores.
You might want to make subgalleries like this:
BASS WARS>XXX Tuning Club>Oct 23 2006
Thanks,
Darren

Ok thank you i found that out and corrected the space replacer, so now using - instead of _
Also fixed some category names, but pics inside dont show..same as before (i deleted previous friendly urls already too).
category urls work perfectly, every page, but in image urls there is a /view/ in the URL, i dont know were this is coming from?maybe this can be the problem?
also, dont understand why but the Zoom gallery urls dont get recorded in the db, even the working ones...if i search for them in backend, they dont show, as if they are not recorded!!

The view is there to let opensef tell zoom gallery to view the image. Look a the gallery here and you'll see what I mean.

They must not need to be recorded as my gallery is not in there either, but it works.

404 Troubles
I still think your gallery names are messing things up. Try using a test gallery with just alphanumeric characters, no spaces. Then use pictures with just alphanumeric names.
If you want me to look at your gallery when you have the extension on let me know.
If you have hot link protection "on" turn it off.

HEllo, i made a test gallery (name : PROVA) and put a file in it (tamarro.jpg) .It still does the same problem. Now i try switching the hotlink protection off (i have it on but i think it's off since i often link images outside my site and it works)
so these are the links to this gallery
http://www.teamspl.it/spl/gallerie/
COMPONENT - WORKS
http://www.teamspl.it/spl/gallerie/PROVA
GALLERY - WORKS
http://www.teamspl.it/spl/gallerie/view/PROVA/tamarro.jpg
IMAGE - NOT WORKS
I could make an account for you and send a pm with the user pass maybe?Really i dont know what else to try :(

Re: 404 Troubles
So far the differences are:
Your site is running on PHP4. Mine is running on PHP5. Should not be a problem.
Your site is running Joomla 1.0.10. Mine is running 1.0.11. Should not be a problem but aren't there security issues with Sundown?
Magic Quotes is on for you and off for me. That could be a problem. I need to figure out how to turn that on and test.
None of that mattered.
I took the .jpg of the name of your image and it started working. Don't put a "file extension like" tag on the end of your image titles until I can figure out a way around it.
Thanks,
Darren

Hello and first of all thanks again for your help!
In the meanwhile i upgraded to 1.0.11 just to be sure :) zoom sef still doesnt work but at least my site is safer...
I've seen that the image you edited removing the .jpg made the file work, i think though that not haveing the extension to display makes the SEO very bad.
Also another thing i found out, dont know if it is a bug or what, is that the images linked by the zoom module mod_zoom_pics link to internal urls and not SEF urls

Re: 404 Troubles
I don't think it's SEF that's having a problem really. I think there is something we need to do in the .htaccess to make sure that URLs that end in .jpg, .gif, .mpg, etc. get rewritten. I need to post that question on the OpenSEF site. I can't right now because my account is messed up. If anybody knows the answer to this please jump in as I am no expert on such issues.
For the mod_zoom_pics SEF problem, you'll have to take that up with the original developer. It's a simple fix. All they have to do is wrap all there URLs with sefRelToAbs().
As for taking the .jpg off, it's really better if you are concerned about SERPs and I assume you are if you are using SEF. If you have a picture titled "myreallycoolpicture.jpg" and some one searches for "really cool picture" your picture won't be found.
Thanks,
Darren

Re: 404 Troubles
You can do it from the admin panel. Go into the zOOm Gallery Media Manager and click the name of the image you want to edit. You don't have to rename the file, just change the title to something without a file extension.
